Have You Suffered a Xarelto Injury?

If you’ve suffered a Xarelto injury, you may be entitled to certain damages, including:

  • Medical Costs – such as hospital and doctor bills, pharmaceutical and medicine bills, medical monitoring, and physical therapy
  • Disability Costs – if taking Xarelto caused you to suffer a disability
  • Lost Wages – if your injury resulted in your inability to work or in lost income
  • Pain and Suffering – if you suffered any type of pain, anguish, or loss of enjoyment resulting from your injuries
  • Loss of Consortium – if your injuries had a negative effect on the relationship with a spouse or partner such as loss of affection, loss of companionship, and loss of support

There may be other types of damages available to you, depending upon the facts and circumstances of your individual situation. An experienced Xarelto injury lawyer can analyze your situation, determine what types of damages you might be entitled to, and help you to obtain compensation for your losses.

What Specific Injuries Result from Taking Xarelto?

Xarelto has been linked to serious internal bleeding injuries such as:

  • Gastrointestinal bleeds (GI bleeds)
  • Intracranial hemorrhaging
  • Hemorrhagic bleeding
  • Death
  • Fatal internal bleeding
  • Excessive or uncontrolled bleeding
  • Stroke
  • Hemorrhaging
  • Retinal hemorrhages
  • Epidural hematoma
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Decreased hemoglobin
  • Adrenal bleeding
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • Intracranial hemorrhages

These injuries are often uncontrollable, life threatening, and can occur immediately or within a few days after taking the drug. Sadly, the anti-coagulation effects of Xarelto are non-reversible.

Patients taking Xarelto who also have other types of medications injected into their spine have an increased risk of developing a spinal hematoma, which can cause permanent paralysis.

What Is Xarelto?

Xarelto, also known as rivaroxaban, is one of the most popular blood-thinning medications on the market. More than 13 million people have been prescribed Xarelto after undergoing surgeries or being treated for atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis, or pulmonary embolism.

Why Is Xarelto Dangerous?

The blood platelets of Xarelto patients cannot clot properly. This may lead to uncontrollable bleeding that can be severe enough to result in death. Patients taking other anticoagulation drugs (including those as common as aspirin) may have an even higher risk of injury.

What Do Xarelto Lawsuits Allege?

Numerous lawsuits have been filed against the manufacturers of the drug, Janssen Pharmaceutical and Bayer Healthcare, alleging that they:

  • Negligently released and marketed the drug;
  • Knew about these serious risks, but failed to warn patients and doctors;
  • Omitted, concealed, and downplayed the heightened risks in direct-to-consumer and other promotional materials for the drug; and
  • Promoted it as superior to a similar drug, known as Warfarin, because Xarelto is only taken orally once a day and does not require blood monitoring. Yet, unlike Warfarin, Xarelto doesn’t have a known antidote to stabilize and treat bleeding emergencies.
