Have you or a loved one suffered complications from an IVF Filter?
Why Are IVC Filters Dangerous?
According to the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and numerous medical studies, IVC filters can cause serious injuries when kept in a patient’s body after implantation, such as:
- Embolization
- Filter fracture
- Filter migration
- Infection
- Perforation of vessel wall
- Pulmonary embolism
In fact, by 2014, the FDA had received so many adverse effect reports of side effects and complications that it issued a warning that retrievable vein filters should be removed between 29 and 54 days after implantation—or as soon as they are no longer medically necessary—to avoid injury.
What Are IVC Filters?
IVC (Inferior Vena Cava) filters are small, cage-like devices designed to capture blood clots and prevent them from reaching the heart and lungs. They are implanted in the large vein of the abdomen and typically used on patients who are at risk of developing blood clots, have been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or cannot be treated with traditional blood thinners.
What Do IVC Lawsuits Allege?
IVC Filter lawsuits against manufacturers and their subsidiaries generally allege negligence, design defects, manufacturing defects, failure to warn of known defects, breach of implied warranty, and negligent misrepresentation.
Who Manufactures IVC Filters?
Many companies manufacture IVC filters. However, C.R. Bard, Cook Medical, and Boston Scientific manufactured most of the filters involved in the litigation.
Which IVC Filters Are Involved in Litigation?
IVC filters involved in the litigation include:
- Bard Recovery filter
- Bard G2 filter
- Bard G2 Express filter
- Cook Gunther Tulip filter
- Cook Celect filter
- Boston Scientific Greenfield filter
Where Are Lawsuits Currently Filed?
Thousands of IVC filter injury lawsuits have been filed across the nation, including three class-action lawsuits against C.R. Bard in California, Florida, and Pennsylvania courts. In addition, Multi-District Litigation (MDL*) is pending in both Indiana and Arizona, with more than 1,600 cases filed against Bard and Cook.
